Tech specs
Tech specs (technical specifications) are standards that outline how a system, web application or cloud-based platform should work. A technical specification should explain all the requirements of a product and the criteria involved, forming the process of design, development and production.
Tech specs differ from a standard project plan because they involve a more in-depth analysis of any and all technical details. So, whereas a DoD or Go/NoGo might be compiled by a product manager, a senior software engineer or IT developer should be in charge of the tech specs. The technical specifications should form a clear guideline on what needs to be completed at what point to meet the project goals.
Where would you use technical specifications?
Technical specifications should be written as early as possible in the product development lifecycle so that the technical details can be understood and developers can easily communicate with project managers.
